Nursing for Life: RN Career Transition Program
Designed to prepare registered nurses to transition to
practice in a community-based setting
The Nursing for Life Program is a self-paced continuing education certificate program that prepares experienced registered nurses to safely and confidently transition to clinical practice in the new setting.
This online program includes core content for nurses in community-based settings, with specialty modules in the nurse’s choice of:
- Ambulatory
- Home Care
- Hospice/palliative
- Long-term Care
- Case Management/Care Coordination (new for 2011)
- Quality/Safety Management (new for 2011)
The course includes a clinical practicum in the selected area of practice. This program was developed in collaboration and with grant support with its partner, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, and with a Partners in Nursing Future grant from Robert Wood Johnson and Northwest Health Foundations.

Admission Requirements:
- Unrestricted RN license
- Two years clinical nursing experience
RN Refresher Program
Designed to prepare registered nurses to return to active
clinical practice
The popular RN Refresher Certificate Program is designed for registered nurses who wish to return to active clinical practice with the core competencies that prepare them to resume clinical practice in a safe, competent, and confident manner.
This course includes 15 self-paced online modules. It is designed to update the nurse on nursing and medical interventions and practice changes in specific conditions commonly seen in adults and focuses on the acute care setting. It provides content on the changes in the healthcare environment that impact current nursing practice. The course includes a 120-hour precepted clinical practicum in your home community.

Admission Requirements:
- Unrestricted RN license in state where you will complete practicum
- Previous experience as an RN
