Bott Building for Nursing Education and Research wins 2013 Green Education Design Showcase

Michigan State University's College of Nursing is home to state-of-the-art facility. The Academic Center includes dedicated space for a multimedia classroom, faculty and staff workstations, atrium/reception area, student support services, external relations, interdisciplinary meetings and community gatherings and conferences. The Nursing Research Center includes dedicated space for research faculty and staff offices/workstations, doctoral student workstations, meetings/interviews rooms, and spaces that facilitate shared work and enhance scholarly activity.

Guidelines to Mature Adults in Avoiding Winter Slips and Falls

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention research reveals one out of three adults, age 65 plus, will annually experience a fall leading to orthopedic challenges, closed head injuries, or even death. According to Linda Keilman, "The slip and fall occurrence rate dramatically increases when winter weather arrives with common sense and caution not being adhered to." She added, "Slips and falls can occur outside, as well as inside a residence, garage, business, house of worship, or related environment."

Michigan Primary Care Consortium Elects Board Officers and Directors

The Michigan Primary Care Consortium's (MPCC) membership recently elected Board officers (Executive Committee) and Board of Directors. Kathy Dontje, Director of Graduate Clinical Programs and Assistant Professor, has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors for a three year term.

In 2012 Teresa Wehrwein, Associate Dean for Academic and Clinical Affairs, was elected to the Board officers for a two year term as Secretary.

Rose Bowl Reunion

Kathy Schwartz (CON BSN '71) and Robin Lammers (CON BSN '71) cheered on the Spartans in Pasadena, California as No. 4 Michigan State rallied from its biggest deficit of the season to defeat Stanford in the 100th Rose Bowl Game, 24-20.

Kelly Adams, PhD student class of ’15, presents her poster entitled, “African American Ethnicity is Independently Associated with Poorer Outcomes in Patients with Heart Failure Even in the Presence of Multiple Risk Factors for Poor Outcomes,” at the American Heart Association’s conference where over 14,000 were in attendance.

Suzanne M. Lee, MSN Nurse Practitioner student class of 2015, receives the 2013 Advanced Practice Nursing Student Scholarship Award from the Great Lakes Chapter of Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association.

Sara MacDonald, Nurse Scholar student class of 2016, placed 1st overall in her age group, as one of Ten ROTC Cadets represented by the University at the annual Army 10-Miler competition in Washington, D.C.

Two esteemed nurse leaders from MSU, Barbara Given and Jill Kilanowski, honored among the list on The Ohio State University College of Nursing 100 Alumni Transformers in Nursing & Healthcare during their careers.
