How the 80’s are Helping Prevent Infection

One Nurse’s Journey from Performing SNL Skits to Developing Dressing Change Kits
Years ago, DNP student Jackeline Iseler dreamed of being on television. Iseler, who is a clinical nurse specialist, recently found a way to incorporate her passion for video into patient care. She worked with a team of experts to create YouTube tutorials of how to correctly change Ventricular Assist Device dressings. Iseler’s work was published in Progress in Transplantation; the article is titled “Developing a kit and video to standardize changes of left ventricular assist device dressings.”

Recognizing Roberta’s Reach

The Alumni Service Award recognizes alumni whose devoted work and service have benefited their community as well as the nursing profession. This year’s recipient is Roberta Hoebeke, PhD, FNP-BC, CON BSN ‘74. “The education I received through the MSU College of Nursing has opened so many doors for me throughout my nursing career and created an appetite for life-long learning,” Hoebeke said. “My path in life would have been very different if I had not gone to MSU. It is because of the start in my career that the MSU College of Nursing gave to me that I am able to give back to others as a nurse and as a faculty working with students and the underserved.”

Spartan Nurse Monthly:
What is the Flu?

Katherine Dontje, PhD, FNP-BC, addresses assumptions about influenza, the once a year occurrence that causes fever, chills, cough, sore throat, and more. Routine flu immunization is recommended for all persons over 6 months of age. Even though all of us should be immunized, it is particularly important for individuals who are at high risk of complications including those with chronic disease such as asthma, lung disease, heart disease, kidney disease, or diabetes.
