Compassionate Care Teams: Q & A with Chris Kaiser

Chris Kaiser, RN to BSN student, works in a Neuro stepdown/Medical-Surgical Unit while advancing his education. “There are many times as novice nurses that we have many questions, and having a supportive care team definitely helps.” After talking with a MSU RN-BSN advisor, Kaiser realized that the transition to MSU would be possible, since students can continue working and learn online.

When Nursing Clicked: Q & A with Amanda Brinker

Amanda Brinker, Traditional BSN student, learned how to work within a hospital team this summer through an externship at the University of Michigan Health System. Brinker worked with many disciplines within the hospital to help the patient heal and begin their journey home. Brinker said she felt like a nurse by the end of her experience; she was thinking critically and predicting patient behavior.

Pushing Barriers: Q & A with Kyle Mueller

Kyle Mueller, Traditional BSN student, is passionate about adding his perspective to the nursing process. “At MSU you are encouraged to push the barriers as to why things are done a certain way. This is essential in the discipline of nursing.” This summer, Mueller worked two demanding jobs but also found time to travel to Colorado and Ireland where he learned that the adventure doesn't start until things don't go according to plan.

Spartans Help Make Hair-A-Thon A Success

Cindy Meteyer, CON BSN '98, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner, (pictured above on the left) led the Sparrow Children’s Center Hair-a-Thon in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The 50 hair donations came from people of all ages and will go to Wigs 4 Kids and Children with Hair Loss, two Michigan-based organizations that provide free wigs to kids in need. Assistant Professor Laura Freidhoff (pictured above on the right) is growing her hair out so it will be long enough to donate in 2016.

Spartan Bedside Nurse: One of the Greats

Jayne Stitzel, CON BSN '93, has been selected for this year’s list of the Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina. The prestigious list recognizes registered nurses for their outstanding professional abilities and commitment to improving healthcare in their communities. “As a bedside nurse, I give my very best with knowledge, experience, tenacity, and compassion. My time at MSU prepared me in so many ways and set my feet on the Spartan path,” said Stitzel.
