Volunteer for the MSU Global Day of Service
March 16, 2016
The MSU Global Day of Service makes an impact all over the world. Spartan alumni, businesses, and student organizations come together in their communities to serve others.
The fourth annual SPARTANS WILL. Power. Global Day of Service is being held on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Imagine what it would look like if Spartans from every corner of the globe joined together on one day to serve. Last year, Spartans donated approximately 16,000 hours of service to their local communities through this initiative.
How will the College of Nursing be participating?
We know Spartan Nurses make a difference on a daily basis. Our challenge is to make April 16 stand out as a truly exceptional day of caring. Join us by volunteering for an existing project in your local community or starting one of your own. Share your plans with us by sending a quick note to kate.follett@hc.msu.edu. In turn, we will gather and celebrate the power of collective impact made by Spartan Nurses in a single day.
Here's how Spartan Nurses can help make this year even more successful:
Sign up for a volunteer opportunity on the MSUAA website, which lists worldwide projects that are being hosted. You can contact the Global Day of Service coordinator listed to learn more about projects that interest you. To get you started, projects being organized by members of your CON Alumni Board will offer a few ideas and options:
- Confetti Foundation: Join us at the MSU College of Nursing Bott Building on campus for fun and treats as you make birthday cards to go in starter party kits for children who are in the hospital on their birthday.
- True Resurrection Blood Pressure Screening (Southfield): Help offer free blood pressure screening to attendees.
- Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services: Serve on the West Coast by sorting food donations. Volunteers examine products for damage, check expiration dates and sort into various food categories.
- Spring Cleanup at Hunter Park GreenHouse: Breathe fresh air, get a bit dirty and help with neighborhood stabilization of Lansing's East side — part of the Allen Neighborhood Center.
The last day to register to be a volunteer for the Global Day of Service is April 10. You can register a project up until April 1. We hope that you’ll be part of this effort to magnify the power of the Spartan Nation for the benefit of our communities. Who will? Spartans Will.
