APPLICATION

Admission into the Michigan State University Accelerated Second Degree program is competitive. Fifty applicants are selected each year to begin the program in the Summer Semester.

To be eligible for admission, candidates must have completed a bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited and recognized college or university and the nine prerequisite courses. Candidates may apply while in the process of completing their first bachelor’s degree or prerequisite courses. The Anatomy 350 and Physiology 250 (or 310) prerequisite courses, however, must be successfully completed at the time of application; transcripts recording the completion of these courses must be included with the application.  All other requirements must be met by the program start date.

Admission Requirements
Minimum criteria for application to the Accelerated Second Degree Program are:
1.) Completion of a baccalaureate degree (or higher) from an accredited and recognized college or university.

2.) Minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 in the baccalaureate degree.

3.) Completion of the prerequisite courses required for admission.

4.) A grade of a 2.0 (C) or higher in each of the science prerequisite courses.

5.) Submission of all required documents, including an essay, two letters of recommendation, resume or curriculum vitae, appropriate applications, and transcripts from all previous postsecondary institutions attended.

Admission Procedures
Applications to the College of Nursing are available each July 1 and must be submitted by October 1 for admission to the Accelerated Second Degree program in the Summer Semester.

All candidates for the Accelerated Second Degree nursing program must be admitted into Michigan State University. Candidates that have never attended Michigan State University in a degree-seeking capacity previously will be required to submit both (1) a Michigan State University Application for Admission and (2) the Supplemental Nursing application. Previous Michigan State University students need not reapply to Michigan State University for admission; these candidates should only submit the Supplemental Nursing application. Supplemental Nursing applications are returned to the Michigan State University College of Nursing.

Candidates who have not applied to Michigan State University previously
  • Candidates who are not former Michigan State University students must submit an Application for Undergraduate Admission. Prospective students should submit an application as a transfer student with the major preference code of 4023 for the Summer Semester. For more information, refer to the Michigan State University Office of Admissions and Scholarships website.

  • Candidates must also submit the supplemental College of Nursing Accelerated Second Degree Program application.  This document should be submitted directly to the Michigan State University College of Nursing. Candidates may also submit the College of Nursing Scholarship application at this time.

Candidates who are returning Michigan State University students
  • Former Michigan State University students need not reapply as new students to the University. However, candidates will need to be formally readmitted into Michigan State University as a condition of their admission.

  • Candidates must also submit the supplemental College of Nursing Accelerated Second Degree Program application.  This document should be submitted directly to the Michigan State University College of Nursing.
