BSN for Registered Nurses

Requirements and Prerequisites

The BSN Program for Registered Nurses is a part-time program that may be completed in five semesters and is only available in an online format. Highly interactive classes are delivered in a web-based format, while physical assessment, community health and leadership/management clinical practicum are completed with preceptors in healthcare facilities near your home.

Academic Requirements

All registered nurse applicants with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 will be considered for admission to the BSN Program for Registered Nurses.
  • Applicants are required to provide proof of an active, unrestricted RN license, and are free to practice without probationary status.
  • A maximum of 60 credits may be transferred from a community college
  • Thirty (30) credits will be granted for successful completion of the National Council Licensing Examination - Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).
  • A minimum of 30 Michigan State University credits is required for graduation. The RN to BSN curriculum is 32 credits.

Below is a list of courses required and recommended for completion before starting the program. See the Michigan State University on-line catalog for a description of the following courses:

WRA 110 Writing and Rhetoric & American Culture
CEM 141 & CEM 161 General Chemistry and Lab
ANTR 350 Anatomy
MMG 201/302 Microbiology and Lab
PSL 250 or PSL 310 Physiology
PSY 101 Introductory Psychology
FCE 225 Family and Child Ecology   
STT 200 Statistical Methods (MTH 103 prerequisite)
IAH 201 (4 credits) US and the World

IAH 211 or higher (4 credits)

Arts and Humanities
ISS 200 level Integrative Studies in Social Science

60 semester credits are the maximum allowed to transfer.
