Goals
Our overall goal is to develop an ongoing program that provides educational opportunities for MSU students, service to the community, while simultaneously providing a basis for research programs.

Research

  • Scientific validation of the role of animals in quality of life of humans across the lifespan
  • Scientific validation of the therapeutic use of animals

Current Research Projects

  • Nursing Home Visitors: What's your preference: Dog or person?
  • Role of companion animals in the adaptation of chronically ill children
  • Therapeutic riding: is it good for the horse? does it work for the rider?

Community programs

  • Increase awareness of the power of the human animal bond, especially among health care providers and administrators

Education

  • Monthly Human-Animal Bond meetings

Long term

  • Ongoing, externally funded programs of research
  • Annual multidisciplinary conference
