About the College
LETTER FROM THE DEAN
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
It is an honor to write to you as the College of Nursing Dean at Michigan State
University. I look forward to working with our entire community - faculty, staff,
students, alumni, and friends. Together we can assure the continued excellence and
strength of the college.
Doing so will mean choosing our priorities carefully. The faculty has established
a "Roadmap for the Future of the College of Nursing" and over the next few years
we will focus on a number of interrelated areas:
- Continuing the pursuit of academic excellence
- Supporting the needs of the profession through academic outreach
- Expanding nursing research and achieving national prominence
- Demonstrating excellence and innovation in nursing practice
- Nurturing a community of diverse learners, scholars, and alumni
The healthcare needs of individuals, families and populations demand a highly
qualified nursing workforce prepared for the challenges of the future. The
College of Nursing at Michigan State University is committed to generating knowledge to improve practice and
preparing practitioners, educators and researchers who will make a difference.
We have a well-earned reputation for graduating nurses who are leaders in society
and that have the capacity for high-level critical thinking while caring deeply
about the profession and our communities at large.
Since its founding, the college has graduated more than 4,000 nurses. Our standard
of excellence reflects upon all of us and we are proud of the accomplishments of
our alumni.
The plans for a new nursing addition to the Life Sciences Building are essential
to our future progress. We continue raising funds for this $17 million project.
We will need support from everyone to make this a reality. The addition is a
major component of the college's fundraising efforts, as are increased endowments
for graduate fellowships, and undergraduate financial aid.
