Linda Scott Delivers Keynote Address at Nursing Commencement and Pinning Ceremony

Linda Scott Headshot
Linda Scott, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN

BSN ’79 - Linda Scott has demonstrated her commitment to nursing for over 30 years. She is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Scott has received a number of honors and awards for her professional commitment, including the 1998 Outstanding Alumni Award in Administration and induction into the American Academy of Nursing in 2008.

Excerpt of her Keynote Address to Graduates: “As nurses, you will have moments that will stand out for you.  And there are times in which you may find yourself standing alone:  the only person present when someone breathes a last breath; the only person present who disagrees with a policy or treatment; the only person brave enough to stand up for being a baccalaureate or advanced prepared nurse.  Hold fast to your beliefs and avoid being socialized into a different way of thinking. Research has shown that there is a difference in the outcomes of care when nurse clinicians are prepared at the baccalaureate level or higher, so all of you will make a positive difference to those in your care.”
