Lora Adams
Nursing is a second career for me.  Formerly I taught communications at IVY Tech in Columbus, IN.  In 1995 I graduated from the MSU College of Nursing, and will start fall 2005 in the research PhD program.  I am married to a very supportive man named Marshall, and we have four sons.  The oldest three are married.  My son in Colorado, Grant, is bringing his wife Rebekah, my newest daughter-in-law, to see Michigan and our home for the first time August 10-16.  Unfortunately, our wonderful old historic home is in the midst of some renovation, so she gets to see it for the first time when the upstairs is torn up.  My oldest son, Ben, and his wife Hiromi, have two lovely daughters whom I consider to be the most wonderful granddaughters in the world.  They live in southern California.  Aaron and his wife, Sarah, live in Lansing so that he can finish at State.  Daniel, my youngest son, left yesterday to attend Cal State Fullerton.  My research interests are still developing but focus on nonpharmacological interventions for symptom management.

Heidi Bearup
My name is Heidi Bearup and I am also referred to as the "eternal student" within my family. I recently completed my BSN through MSU in June 2005 and I have been an RN for 3 years. My nursing subspecialty is high-risk labor and delivery and mother-baby nursing. Presently, I am an active member of Association of Women's Health, Obstetrical, and Neonatal Nurses, serving as West-Central Michigan co-chair. During the completion of my BSN here at MSU, I had the honor of being inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, MSU's Alpha Psi Chapter, and was also selected as MSU's RN-BSN Student Commencement Speaker (and found out I had terrible public speaking anxiety)! I currently live in Norton Shores and have been married to my husband Adam for nearly 3 years. He is also a full-time student and a residential contractor. We have a black lab, Jagger; we call "our spoiled baby".

In my spare time (which there won't be any left now), I enjoy reading, sewing/knitting, skiing, yoga, journaling, and guitar. I am currently training for a triathlon that I hope to compete in next July. On a fun note, from time to time, I am doing some hair modeling in Chicago.

My long-term aspirations are to successfully complete my Ph.D. so that I may eventually be a university professor. My purposed doctorate research will be in the realm of perinatal loss and trans-cultural nursing. I plan to contribute to knowledge development in this area as my lifelong research goal.

Catherine Fournier
My name is Katy Fournier. My husband and I and our 2 1/2 year old son, Charlie, moved from the Chicago area to Williamston this past winter. I am a student in the fast-track PhD program. I have a Master of Public Health degree from Indiana University and a BSN from Valparaiso University. My experience and interest is in Maternal-Child nursing, particularly the high-risk antepartum population. Currently I am working part-time as a neonatal nurse at Sparrow Hospital. I am very excited to have this opportunity to become a nurse researcher. I look forward to meeting my classmates and learning with them and from them over the next few years.

Mary Franklin
I am very happy to have this opportunity to join this distinguished community of scholars. I started my career in nursing at the University of Michigan in 1986 and joined the Army Nurse Corps. I was introduced to critical and coronary care, which has been my particular clinical passion for the past nineteen years. I've had a variety of advanced practice nursing roles, the most recent as cardiology nurse practitioner and clinical faculty at Wayne State University. I enjoy working with students because I get to experience a wide spectrum of nursing practice through new eyes each day. I know I want to study phenomena related to cardiovascular patients and continue working with students. I live with my husband (also a nurse and Maize and Blue alumni) and two felines in Sylvan Lake, Michigan. We finally agree that Spartans and Wolverines can co-exist peacefully in the same house.

Susan Wehner
Susan received both her BSN (1995) and her MSN (2000) from Michigan State University College of Nursing. She is a nurse practitioner in the Department of Neurology at MSU and as a project manager in the Department of Epidemiology. She has had this position since 2000. Prior to 2000 she was employed at Sparrow Health System in the Department of Neurosciences and Rehab. She is involved in clinical practice with a focus on stroke prevention, community education, and research in stroke. Research interests include stroke prevention, epidemiology, depression, disparities in stroke care, and stroke outcomes. Susan lives in Laingsburg, Michigan with her husband and 3 children.
