Post Masters Certificate
REQUIREMENTS & PREREQUISITES
The Michigan State University College of Nursing offers a Post Master's Certificate Program to meet the needs of Registered
Nurses who hold a clinical master's degree in nursing and are seeking certification for advanced practice in Adult or Family
Nursing and Nursing Education. Gerontological Nursing is also offered if enough applications are received.

The Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program provides both theoretical and clinical content related to meeting the health care needs
of individuals in various stages of the life cycle. Credit for certificate program courses may be obtained through transfer of previous
academic credit (waiver), credit by examination, or enrolling in courses as needed. The amount of time needed to complete the
program varies depending on student's previous coursework.
The completion of the Michigan State University College of Nursing Post-Masters Certificate program prepares and qualifies
master's prepared nurses to take the ANA certification examination in adult/family or gerontology. Successful completion of the
ANA certification examination is a prerequisite for applying for nurse practitioner licensure at the state level.

The Nursing Education Certificate Program is delivered in an on-line format. Students study in their homes at their own
convenience. They are able to access technical support, libraries and consult with faculty through state of the art technology.
Internship placement is typically in the student's home community. Internship placements are individualized according to the
student's interests, education, practical experience and career goals.
The completion of the Michigan State University College of Nursing Post-Master's in Nursing Education Certificate program prepares
and qualifies Master's prepared nurses to for entry level teaching positions in clinical and college settings. Upon completion of the
certificate program, graduates are prepared for a variety of health care settings or colleges. Their preparation provides them with the
advanced nursing skills and knowledge to deliver comprehensive and coordinated delivery of their educational expertise.

The criteria for admission to the Post-Master's Certificate Program are as follows:
- Completion of a Master's degree in nursing from an NLN accredited program. A clinical focus is preferred.
- The equivalent of at least three-year full-time clinical work experience as an RN within the past five years.
- Current licensure to practice nursing in the United States; eligible for Michigan license.
- Successful completion of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) when an applicant's primary language is not English.
