CON chapter receives AAMN recognition

The College of Nursing’s Men in Nursing Student Association is now an officially recognized chapter of the American Association for Men in Nursing.

Summary

The Michigan State University College of Nursing’s Men in Nursing Student Association has been recognized as an official chapter of the American Association for Men in Nursing. The student group, founded in 2023, will now have access to AAMN communications, events, scholarships, its annual conference, travel discounts and other opportunities. Chapter president Ethan Levack called the recognition a milestone that will help the group advocate for men in nursing and men’s health. Faculty co-advisor Michael Martel said the chapter will continue fostering a diverse, inclusive environment for male nursing students to connect, serve the community and discuss issues specific to their experiences in nursing.

The college’s Men in Nursing Student Association is now an officially recognized chapter of the American Association for Men in Nursing (AAMN).

As such, members of the college’s chapter, which was founded in 2023, can now have access to exclusive AAMN communications, events, scholarships and its annual conference, as well as travel discounts and more. It will also be listed on the AAMN website now as “(AAMN), Michigan State University Men in Nursing.”

"Becoming a recognized chapter of the AAMN is a significant milestone for our group,” said nursing student Ethan Levack, who is also president of the college’s chapter. “We are grateful to join a growing network of like-minded nurses who share our passion for advocating not only for men in the nursing profession but also for men's health. This recognition brings exciting opportunities for our group and serves as a great way to represent Spartan nurses on a broader stage."

Faculty co-advisor Michael Martel said he is proud of the work and education the student leaders have shown over the past 18 months to establish a strong foundation for the chapter. In addition to Martel, who is an assistant professor in the college, the group is also advised by Assistant Professor John Mailey.

Martel added the chapter will serve as a vital platform for supporting and promoting the presence of men in the nursing profession within the college and in the broader community.

“Through this chapter, we will continue to foster a diverse and inclusive environment where male nursing students can connect, share resources, serve the community, and engage in meaningful conversations about issues specific to their experiences in the field of nursing,” Martel said. “I am eager to see what this group will continue to accomplish moving forward.”
