  • Admission Requirements
  • BSN to MSN & BSN to DNP Admission Requirements
    • Submit a university application and résumé/CV.
    • Hold a BSN from an accredited institution.
    • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (based on the second half of the BSN program).
    • Hold a current, unrestricted RN license.
    • Complete a 3-credit statistics course within the past five years
      (minimum grade: 2.0 undergraduate or 3.0 graduate).
    • Submit a written essay outlining career goals and motivations.
    • Provide three professional letters of recommendation.
    • Complete an admissions interview with College of Nursing faculty, upon invitation.
    • Demonstrate English proficiency, if native language is not English.
       
    MSN to DNP Admission

    Admission is limited to advanced practice registered nurses who:

    • Hold a master’s degree from an accredited nursing program (CCNE or NLNAC).
    • Maintain current national certification in their specialty.

    Out-of-State Applicants

    Students who reside outside the state of Michigan who are considering an on-line nursing program should contact the appropriate board in their state of residency to confirm whether the course or program meets requirements for professional licensure in the student’s state of residence prior to beginning a course of study. MSU has an up-to-date state-by-state summary available online.

  • Applications are accepted from Aug. 1 to April 1 for fall entry in the MSN and DNP programs. Applications for the certificate program open in the summer and have an Oct. 1 deadline.

    FAQs

    Are clinical courses required?

    Yes. Clinical hours are included in the CNS curriculum. A board-certified CNS serves as the preceptor.

    Do students need to come to campus?

    While the program is online, students must come to campus one time for an orientation before their program in late August.

    How much does the program cost?

    Tuition rates vary by residency status. Visit the MSU Controller’s Office for current tuition and fees.

    Are scholarships available?

    Yes, the College of Nursing offers student scholarships. The scholarship application window is open annually from January to March 1. Please visit our Scholarships page for more information.
