Michigan State University College of Nursing Instructors Angela Floyd, MSN, RN, AGCNS, CCRN; and John Mailey, MSN, RN, A-GNP-C, CCRN, will present the next CONversations Series, titled Vaccination Hesitation: From the Eyes of a Black Provider. Assistant Professor Angella Ruley, DNP, CRNA, NP-C will be moderating the event.
From Fistula surgery to the Tuskegee experiment, a culture of mistrust persists in the healthcare system amongst the Black community, and for good reason. Marred with a history of implicit bias and inequity in healthcare, the pandemic has disproportionately affected Black Americans, having seen death rates close to three times more than that of White Americans according to the National Public Health Emergency Collection.
As Black healthcare providers in Detroit, Michigan, Floyd and Mailey will walk through the history of inequity and the challenges that their community is facing. Attendees will have time to ask questions during the Q & A session. REGISTER NOW
