Education, Certification, and Experience:
In 2001, I embarked on my nursing journey, earning my BSN from Bradley University in Peoria, IL. This laid the groundwork for a career dedicated to healthcare excellence. From 2001 to 2008, I honed my skills at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, specializing in cardiovascular, heart and lung transplant, and ventricular assist device acute care. This hands-on experience propelled me to pursue further education, leading to an MSN in Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist from Winona State University in Winona, MN, from 2004 to 2008. My thirst for knowledge and passion for nursing continued, culminating in a DNP from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI, from 2013 to 2016.
Throughout my career, I've remained committed to staying abreast of the latest developments in nursing. In 2022, I earned a micro-credential in Diversity and Inclusion from the American College of Education in Indianapolis, IN. From 2008 to 2017, I served as a CNS at Spectrum Health, specializing in cardiovascular care, heart and lung transplant, and ventricular assist devices. These diverse experiences have shaped me both personally and professionally, instilling in me a deep understanding of healthcare and a dedication to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
Career Highlights:
My leadership journey at Spectrum Health has been marked by significant milestones and impactful contributions to patient care. Leading the development of the Cardiovascular, Heart and Lung Transplant, and Ventricular Assist Device programs has been a highlight, shaping the landscape of cardiac care within the organization. As the first certified Clinical Nurse Specialist at Spectrum Health, I've spearheaded evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives that have reverberated beyond our institution's walls. One notable achievement is the implementation of VAD dressing changes, documented on YouTube in 2013, which has since garnered widespread adoption and was integrated into international guidelines in 2023. Additionally, our efforts in decreasing percutaneous coronary intervention practice have set a standard of care not only across Michigan but also in the UK, contributing to enhanced patient outcomes on a global scale. These accomplishments underscore my commitment to advancing healthcare excellence and driving positive change in patient care practices.
