Granger Simulation Lab earns first accreditation

E-News_Dimensions_2.png

For the first time, the Granger Simulation Lab in Life Science has received accreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in the areas of teaching/education, assessment, research and human patient simulation. Additionally, it is part of the reaccreditation for MSU Simulation, which encompasses six sites across the state including the Learning and Assessment Center in Fee Hall.

The accreditation process ensures a simulation program is adhering to internationally recognized benchmarks for quality, education and patient safety. It is the “gold standard” of simulation education.

“We could not have achieved this success without the continued support, partnership, and commitment of the colleges and programs we serve,” said Mary Kay Smith, executive director of the Learning Assessment Center and an associate professor in the Michigan State University College of Nursing. “Thank you to everyone who contributed to this remarkable achievement and for exemplifying the spirit of our One Team/One Health initiative.

Smith noted the accomplishment required countless hours of dedication and collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders, including administrators, simulation professionals, faculty, learners, assessment and research experts, and standardized patients.

The newcomer to the accreditation process, the Granger Simulation Lab is the primary home for nursing students looking to get hands-on experience and is integral to facilitating simulated clinical experiences. The 8,000-square-foot space is home to the largest immersive room of its kind in North America, 17 hospital beds, state-of-the-art manikins — including birthing manikins — and numerous equipment and technology that one would find in a typical hospital or clinical setting.

You can take a tour of the Granger Simulation Lab here.
