2024 Pathophysiology Refresher Course
REGISTRATION IS AT CAPACITY! Please check back next summer for future interest in the course.
SUMMER 2024
July 8 - August 5 2024
Online course
On-your-own course with weekly discussions. In-person live group discussions are from 9-10 am on Wednesdays: July 10, 17, 24 and 31. If participants are unable to attend live discussions, recordings of the sessions may be viewed.
Are you changing jobs? Preparing for an Advanced Pathophysiology Course? Has it been a while since you studied pathophysiology? Please join us for this online continuing nursing professional development activity. Participants wanting to refresh their knowledge or preparing to study pathophysiology at the graduate level will benefit from this online course.
Content includes deviations or interruptions to normal body structure and function, adaptive/compensatory mechanisms to restore function, the interaction of body systems, and integrating assessment and diagnostics in identifying health/disease status. This interactive course uses a concept-based learning platform in MSU's online D2L course management system and is primarily asynchronous with 4 synchronous discussions: 1 live session per week for each week of the course. The weekly synchronous discussion days and times are from 9-10 am on Wednesdays: July 10, 17, 23 and 31. If participants are unable to attend live discussions, recordings of the sessions may be viewed. This course is intended for nurses, educators, clinical faculty and preceptors, graduate students prior to MSU's Advanced Pathophysiology course, and anyone wishing to learn more about human pathophysiology!
Instructor: Dr. Kristine Rose, PhD
Participants completing this activity will receive 14.5 professional nursing development contact hours!
Participant Cost: $150.00
MSU College of Nursing Clinical Faculty $75.00
MSU College of Nursing Preceptor $75.00
Henry Ford Health System employee $75.00
UM- Sparrow Lansing employee $75.00
The learning outcome of the course is for learners to be able to state an example of increased knowledge of pathophysiology concepts.
The primary learning objectives for this refresher course are:
1. Describe pathophysiological mechanisms involved in deviations from or interruptions to normal body
structure and/or function
2. Explain how underlying disease processes result in impaired physiological function including
abnormal lab values
3. Describe how adaptive/compensatory mechanisms attempt to restore normal structure and/or
function using a concept-based learning platform
4. Examine how dysfunction of one body system affects function of another body system using a
concept-based learning platform
5. Integrate knowledge of assessment and diagnostics in identifying variations in health status & disease
This course's 14.5 continuing education contact hours can be achieved by:
1. Participation in all course activities
2. Signing in weekly and as needed to all course activities (tracked through Zoom and D2L[course management system])
3. Achieving passing score on post-test (Score = 80 % on module quizzes and final quiz)
4. Completion of course evaluation form
