The College of Nursing Continuing Education Unit provides leadership and content expertise for a wide variety of seminars and workshops each year. Utilizing the expertise of our faculty and its resources, program topics are developed based on learner needs. These workshops are open to faculty, students and University affiliates.
College of Nursing Grand Rounds
The Faculty Practice Committee of the College of Nursing provides Grand Rounds on a variety of topics several times annually in sessions provided by advanced practice faculty. Topics are aligned with current practice initiatives and the needs expressed by learners who participate. These sessions are one hour in length, often provided during the lunch hour to facilitate attendance by busy practitioners. Topics center on current evidence based practice guidelines and interventions for advanced practice providers caring for individuals with multiple complex, chronic health conditions. Students are welcome to attend.
All nursing professionals and students in the MSU community are encouraged to attend.
Nursing Grand Rounds are offered throughout the calendar year to discuss excellence in nursing through scholarly presentations. Grand Rounds provide a forum for the College of Nursing to share knowledge from qualified healthcare professionals on a variety of nursing topics.

Rural Health Grand Rounds
The Michigan Center for Rural Health and the Michigan State University College of Nursing are joint providers of educational offerings in conferences and Rural Health Grand Rounds sessions. Conferences occur twice annually and cover a variety of topics relevant to practitioners in rural settings. Topics for Grand Rounds include geriatric, nursing, pharmacy, oral health, psychiatry and special topics. The MSU College of Nursing provides content experts in education, practice and research as well as continuing nursing education contact hours for sessions that are applicable to nursing through the planning process for each event.
Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners in rural communities and in Michigan’s Critical Access Hospitals as well as faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend the Grand Rounds sessions.
Rural Health Grand Rounds are educational offerings provided to rural healthcare settings and providers as part of the mission of the Michigan Center for Rural Health (MCRH). The MCRH at Michigan State University (MSU) is governed by a Board of Directors with financial support from the state of Michigan via a contract with Michigan Department of Community Health. It is dedicated to improving the health of Michigan’s residents by providing a variety of distance education offerings that meet the needs of patients, families and healthcare professionals in these settings.

The Michigan Center for Rural Health (MCRH) and the College of Nursing work in partnership to jointly provide conferences and other programs in nursing, geriatrics, psychiatry and pharmacy. This joint provider relationship allows the College of Nursing to be involved in planning quality programs that will be applicable to nursing and provide nursing continuing education contact hours for these sessions.
Sigma Theta Tau Alpha Psi Chapter
In February, the Alpha Psi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, an international honor society of nursing in the College of Nursing at Michigan State University, hosts a continuing nursing education (CNE) session with the focus on pain and pain symptom management that provides one contact hour of CNE. The focus of the pain presentation is aligned with the needs of learners who are members of Alpha Psi Chapter. This session is open to all registered nurses regardless of Chapter membership or faculty status in the College of Nursing. Guests are encouraged to attend.
