The Michigan State University College of Nursing offers several options for advanced practice registered nurses to further their careers and skill sets, including:
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN):
This degree prepares graduates for positions that reflect the current, emerging and expanding roles of nurses as providers. The curricula are designed in the context of related challenges, needs, and increasing complexities within the systems of health care delivery, higher education, and professional nursing.
We currently offer four concentrations:
- Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP):
The DNP program prepares advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to provide clinical, organizational and systems’ leadership at the highest level. Graduates design, implement and evaluate high quality and cost-effective healthcare services for diverse populations including the disadvantaged and underserved through the use of evidence-based data and technology.
We currently offer five concentrations:
- Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Nurse Anesthesiology
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
We also offer a post-master's option for students pursuing their DNP.
Ph.D.:
The Ph.D. in Nursing is for those nurse scientists who wish to advance their career – and the profession – through research and evidence-based nursing practice.
