We provide services to faculty, including:

  • Instructional technology equipment and support
  • Faculty orientation/development
  • Mobile learning devices
  • Site evaluation administration
  • Proctored exam administration
  • Instructional design assistance

And we provide access to spaces for students, faculty and staff, including:

Janice Thompson Granger Nursing Learning Center

The state-of-the-art center, located in the Life Sciences Building, enhances our nursing students’ ability to learn and practice real-life healthcare procedures and techniques in an environment that fosters critical thinking skills.

Some features of the center:

  • Skill development: Including — but not limited to —medication administration techniques, including injection techniques, IV administration, wound care, urethral catheterization and tracheostomy care
  • Clinical rooms: Six
  • Hospital beds: 17
  • OR tables: 2
  • Two simulation rooms with 2-way mirrors
  • Equipment: Pyxis Med Station, partial task trainers, low- and high-fidelity manikins

The Learning and Assessment Center

The Learning and Assessment Center (LAC), located in Fee Hall, is a collaborative vision of the College of Nursing, Human Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and serves as a premier resource for advancing competence of healthcare professionals through education, scholarship and outreach.

The 8,600-square-foot center includes:

  • Technology classroom
  • Simulation laboratory
  • High-fidelity sim rooms: Two
  • Clinical exam rooms: 14
  • Hospital rooms: 4
  • Technology: Digital video technology is installed in all areas with computer access; a web based program provides students and faculty access to view experiences, enter and review data, generate statistical analysis and manage scheduling.

This multi-college organization allows for better efficiency, cross-college collaborations and the opportunity to model aspects of team care to achieve optimal patient outcomes and improve our healthcare system. The LAC helps health professions students develop and demonstrate competence in basic tasks and skills through in-depth, hands-on training. It is an important extension of their classroom training, allowing them to expand and fine-tune their abilities before going into a real-life setting.

Nursing faculty work directly with the LAC director and staff to design and implement formative and summative assessments that help students transfer their classroom education into practice. At the LAC students are immersed in high-fidelity simulations, standardized patient interactions and task-specific "hands-on" learning with partial tasks trainers and the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary experiences in the Learning and Assessment Center. Student interactions are then taped and critiqued by the faculty to provide instantaneous feedback and improve practice skills.

The Anesthesia Operating Room

The Anesthesia Operating Room provides anesthesia training through advanced instructional technologies that emulates the necessary anesthesia equipment used in healthcare systems.

The surgical suite contains:

  • State-of-the-art patient simulator and operating room equipment
  • PSV, SIMV, heated absorbers and touchscreen technology
  • Nerve ultrasound system
  • Video assisted airway devices
  • Epidural injection simulators
  • Electric surgical table
  • Infant intubation manikin

This interactive operating room is utilized by expert faculty with over 50 years of combined Anesthesia experience. Students are immersed into crisis management situations to help them gain experience in simulated patient scenarios that are critical to competent anesthesia management.
